The Descriptive Catalogue of Sanskrit Manuscripts in the Alain Dani\u00e9lou Collection at the Giorgio Cini Foundation by Nicola Biondi, presents an important collection of over 300 copies of manuscripts, both hand-written and type-written, devoted mainly to Indian music and sound. In the 1950s, a team of scholars led by Alain Dani\u00e9lou searched for Sanskrit manuscripts dealing with music, Sang\u012bta \u015b\u0101stra<\/i>, in the main Indian libraries and private collections. The texts were copied between 1946 and 1955 all around India (V\u0101r\u0101\u1e47asi, Kolkata, Chennai, Baroda, Thanjavur, Thiruvanathapuram, Pune, Bikaner).<\/p>\n

The collection, donated by Dani\u00e9lou to the Giorgio Cini Foundation in 1971, is now thoroughly described in the attempt to offer a useful tool to researchers and all those interested in Indian music history and theory.<\/p>\n
