On the centenary of the birth of the Lucanian poet Rocco Scotellaro, Finisterre has produced a volume publishing original articles by Davide Rondoni, Pancrazio Toscano, Ambrogio Sparagna, Erasmo Treglia and Annarita Colaianni.
\nThe words and sounds of the CD are accompanied by a third element: images created by Mario Cresci, which are in themselves a unique, rich and intense story of Scotellaro.<\/p>\n
‘The mornings, death, the peasants, the hand of a mother withdrawing, the cart driver with his whip among the stars. And the father like a black dot in the storm. Rocco Scotellaro’s poetry, imbued with simple pity, refined luminous sensitivity and harsh religiosity, is a stone and honey in the immense and protean tradition of Italian literature.’<\/p>\n

The texts, like Mario Cresci’s figurative journey, are echoed in the musical offering, collected on the accompanying CD, which includes eight poems by Scotellaro set to music by Ambrogio Sparagna and a piece that mixes several poems in dialect in a soundscape inspired by local tradition. Some soloists from the Italian Popular Orchestra of the Auditorium Parco della Musica in Rome, led by Sparagna, offer, in addition to their voices, the sounds of a wide variety of instruments – hurdy-gurdy, harp, accordion, viola, jaw harp, guitars and strings.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
