Description
Music and encounters with spirits. Vol. 2: digital media presents ethnographic research conducted in various socio-cultural and religious contexts in which digital mediation practices intervene in the relationship between the performing arts and encounters with spirits and other non-human entities. Combining ethnomusicological and anthropological perspectives with the study of digital media, the case studies presented here are linked by a common thread that intersects digital technologies, mediation processes and the online circulation of sounds related to encounters with spirits, ranging from Africa (Silvia Bruni, Kawkab Tawfik) to Southeast Asia (Lorenzo Chiarofonte, Vincenzo Della Ratta, Luigi Monteanni). Richly illustrated and accompanied by references to multimedia resources available online, the contributions in this volume aim to offer educational resources for students of ethnomusicology, anthropology, history of religions and media studies, as well as research materials useful for investigating the musical, performative and media aspects associated with possession and encounters with spirits.
