Nicole Coceancig – Zohra/ Franco Giordani|Alvise Nodale – Truóis e gòtes/Jvan Moda – La parola Noi/Rivocs – Rivocs (Nota, 2025)

The Friulian music scene never ceases to amaze with its quality and originality. This year, in fact, the historic Udine-based label Nota has released four albums that offer a rich and multifaceted glimpse into contemporary Friulian singer-songwriter music, restoring the image of a scene that is always vibrant and which, while remaining firmly anchored to its territory and language, knows how to move naturally within a broader landscape, intersecting different sounds. These are records that have come to life from different generational and stylistic backgrounds, the result of paths ranging from rock songwriting to vocal research, from acoustic roots to narrative concepts. Yet, in their diversity, they converge on common ground: that of music as a tool for reflection, memory and civic engagement, renewing a tradition that for decades has made Friuli a laboratory of identity and critical listening. From the power of Nicole Coceancig’s storytelling to Franco Giordani and Alvise Nodale’s exploration of shared memory, from the urgency of rebuilding a sense of community in Jvan Moda’s songs to Rivocs’ sound research, a soundscape emerges of a Friuli that plays, thinks and dialogues with the present. A complex and vibrant soundscape, where language becomes musical material, memory is transformed into artistic expression, and every project seems to question the very meaning of songwriting today.
