IL CAMPO
A series of ethnomusicological studies with an interdisciplinary perspective, edited by Ignazio Macchiarella

What kind of “form” is a sung hendecasyllable?
What tools can be used to describe and analyse it? What are the salient features that distinguish it from other types of sung verse? What are the genres, in history and current practice, in which the hendecasyllabic verse has a place as a vehicle for singing? The volume attempts to answer
these questions – inevitably in a partial manner
and through ad hoc investigations and in-depth studies – by bringing together scholars and performers with distinct backgrounds and professional experience.
The multidisciplinary nature of the contributions and the multiplicity of approaches adopted by the scholars reflect the hybrid and composite nature of the subject of study, in which words, metre and music not only coexist but intertwine
in complex ways that only a multi-centric observation allows us to investigate and understand in depth.
